Beresford Dale is one of the 4 dales forming a continuous walk from the village of Thorp to the village of Hartington. It is quite a small dale but has interesting features throughout, including the very attractive River Dove, small stepped rapids, limestone cliffs and a small wooden bridge. This is the first of the limestone dales reached by the River Dove as it journeys on its way from Axe Edge on the Pennines.
